Following classical and medieval tradition, Saint Thomas maintains that human intelligence is intended to intentionally appropriate the truth. This means that thanks to his intelligence and his free will, man can be questioned by truth, allowing himself to be molded and transformed in its image. However, materialism and utilitarian activism have meant that this goal of education has now been lost sight of. The very nature of the transcendent Truth in the search of the human being has led us to observe how thinkers such as Jean Piaget have affected the focus of an education oriented towards its end, which is Truth and Good. That is why we see the importance of delving into nature and the need for an education that allows us to conquer and possess the truth, overcoming the difficulties derived from the corporeal-spiritual and social condition of man. This brief study is aimed at reflecting on some of the foundations of education in virtues under the realistic perspective of St. Thomas Aquinas that contrasts with Piagetian educational materialism which has had a great impact on current education. Keywords: education, truth, virtue, action, verification.
