Abstract

El presente artículo indaga en algunas razones que quizá permitan explicar la supervivencia tan pertinaz del fútbol en la fase contemporánea, su cualidad omnipresente y universal como fenómeno de masas. el embeleso que suscita hasta hoy en sus adherentes, tanto de la clase trabajadora como provenientes de las élites. Sin renunciar a sus vivencias personales, el autor explora en elementos conceptuales adscribibles a la Sociología de la Cultura que sugieren el valor identificatorio del fenómeno futbolístico, su cualidad de "rito de pasaje" para la masculinidad temprana y su potencial para una re-actualización colectiva de “lo sagrado" en los recintos donde tiene lugar. El artículo brinda algunas referencias literarias sugestivas de un ethos subyacente a la devoción del fútbol, considerando, en ese escenario, el problema ciertamente insoslayable de la violencia incontrolada que él engendra en ocasiones, intentando dilucidar el significado subrepticio de tales manifestaciones en el contexto de la societas peculiar en que tienen lugar.

This article examines some of the reasons that may explain the persistent survival of soccer in the contemporary period, its omnipresent and universal quality as mass phenomenon, the captivation it has exercised on its fans, both from the working class and the elite. Without ignoring his experiences, the author explores the conceptual elements pertaining to the Sociology of Culture, which suggest the identificatory value of soccer phenomenon, its quality of “rite of passage" to early masculinity and its capacity to collectively re-update what is perceived as “sacred" in the stadiums and other playing fields. The article provides some literature references which suggest the existence of an ethos underlying the soccer devotion without overlooking the unavoidable problem of uncontrollable violence soccer produces sometimes. Thus, the article also seeks to elucidate the surreptitious meaning of such manifestations taking place in the context of this peculiar societas.
